Old Nob Hill Foods Location

Original post made by MVResidentX, Old Mountain View, on Sep 10, 2007

Now that Nob Hill has opened up its larger, fancier store, what are the plans for the old location next door? I would love to see a 24 hour Fitness Center move in that spot.

I don't think that will happen. I think there are plans of remodeling the former Albertson's Mkt. on California Avenue near San Antonio Shopping Center into a 24hr Fitness. Their current site is too crowded and small for expansion.

I don't know how many other people would be interested in this but I would love to see a "99 Ranch" Asian market move into that spot. They opened up a really nice new branch in Foster City not too long ago and really revitalized that commercial strip.

Please, anything BUT a 99 Ranch market.

I was just thinking of a viable business that would be a good fit in that amount of square footage so that they don't have to tear down the building. Maybe a 24 Hour Fitness could go in there and 99 Ranch market could go into the former Albertson's building on California Avenue.

Please --- NO 99 Ranch market!!! The traffic would be bad, and [portion removed by Mountain View Voice staff].

Why would Ranch 99 attract more traffic than the old Albertson's market? I think it should replace the old Albertson's on Cal. Ave. Mountain View has a large Asian population who would probably love to have an Asian food store nearby. It would not make sense to put Ranch 99 right next Nob Hill Foods though - redundant businesses. I think 24 Hour Fitness would be great at the old Nob Hill building. A lot of working commuters driving on routes 237, 85 and El Camino and pass by this location every morning and night. I think a gym would do quite well there. Also, people living in the neighborhoods near Grant Road have only the YMCA (which is much more expensive to join) as a gym option.

A Ranch99 in MV is a GREAT idea!!!

Especially after the Golden Phoenix on Rengstorff closed.

Like some said before, a good location would be the old Albertson's on CA St.

Anyone know what is happening at that location? There is a lot of renovation going on - especially at the old Nob Hill location.

According to the Development Project list on the City of Mountain View website it is a "Facade Enhancement and Sign Program" for Grant Park Plaza.

There's also a mention of exterior remodeling on this commercial real estate site:

Anyone have any idea just what business will be moving into the old Nob Hill market building? It looks like a pretty large facade (one that could accomodate a big sign) is going up above the building there... Would be nice to know what to expect down the road!

I agree with MVResidentX and I think that a Ranch 99 in the old Albertson site would be a good thing. The amount of traffic would be no more than it was for Albertson or the current Safeway close by. I don't know why anyone would think that a 24Hr Fitness would move in to that site. No matter how crowded it gets, 24HrFitness-MV would still be signing up new members to increase its profits.

I shop at Ranch 99 and Marina in Cupertino and having a Ranch 99 here would be much more convenient. I enjoy the Asian products as their selection and prices are much better than the "Ethnic Aisle" at Safeway/other.

It would not compete with Nob Hill as much as you think. Ranch99 carries numerous items that Nob Hill does not and vice versa (ex. many Asian vegetables).

The Loopnet website confirms that "99 Ranch" is going to be moving into the spot vacated by Nob Hill:

Also, 24-Hour Fitness "Super Sport" is moving into the old Albertson's building on California Street:

Well, the Ranch 99 has opened. Happy to see that one opened close to us in Mountain View.
Sadly a fire has happened. I don't know any other details.
