Visitors of downtown Redwood City needn’t look far to order beer on tap or sip on a specialty cocktail over a meal. However, a new addition to downtown offers a unique combination of food to pair with drinks you’d be hard-pressed to find elsewhere along the Peninsula. Located at the Crossing 900 building adjacent to the Redwood City Caltrain station, Hidden Tap and Barrel opened in September and is operated by owner Angad Dhaliwal, who also owns and operates Curry Pizza House next door.
Together, the two businesses provide locals, office workers and commuters alike a new destination to unwind over drinks and food. “Hidden Tap and Barrel is just what Redwood City needed — an upscale space for people to catch their favorite games or come for date night to enjoy beer on tap,” Dhaliwal said.
The bar stocks over 400 spirits such as single malts, boutique blended malts and single cask rums, in addition to 20 rotating taps with a focus on Northern California breweries. Their cocktail menu includes fusion creations with a nod to the Indian flavors served next door, such as a Chocolate Chai High and Mango Chutney Martini. Other highlights include a weeknight happy hour, full patio (furry friends are welcome) and pool table for guests to enjoy.
For those craving a bite to eat in between sips, visitors can order food from Curry Pizza House, which brings Indian flavors in the form of pizzas, chicken wings, appetizers and more. Craft curry pizzas such as the Aloo Chaat, Tandoori Chicken and Malai Paneer can be ordered on regular, gluten-free or cauliflower crusts. Their classic menu offers familiar favorites, including a Meat Lover’s pie and margherita pizza.
After the closure of Lobster Shack next door, opening Hidden Tap was a natural next step for Dhaliwal. “Our (building) allowed us to expand and we wanted to give people a space to come for drinks and food,” he said.
Since opening, Hidden Tap has steadily built an audience in Redwood City, which Dhaliwal says has welcomed the business with open arms. “We are grateful to be a part of such a warm community,” he said.
