Turkish-style Mediterranean restaurant coming to Stanford Shopping Center

Uploaded: Jan 20, 2023
By Kate Bradshaw

Hummus Mediterranean Kitchen is opening a new location at Stanford Shopping Center in Palo Alto, according to shopping center spokesperson Isabelle Braun.

While declining to disclose when exactly the restaurant will open, she said that Hummus Mediterranean Kitchen will be located between Pacific Catch and Taro San Noodle Bar.

Hummus Mediterranean Kitchen is a Turkish-style Mediterranean restaurant with additional locations in Mountain View, San Carlos and San Francisco. It offers Turkish breakfasts on weekends at its Mountain View location. Menu items include slow-roasted rotisserie-style meats and four flavors of hummus: classic, olive and feta, chipotle and beet.

Traditional appetizers like baba ghanoush, dolmades and falafel are offered alongside main plates with gyros and kebabs or wraps served on lavash bread. The restaurant's menu also includes lahmacun, a Turkish-style pizza made on a thin-crusted flatbread with minced meat, vegetables, herbs and spices.

Do the Turks eat like the Arabs (with their hands) or do they use silverware?

When we were in Morocco, people dining in groups ate with their fingers and this seemed very unsanitary and coarse.

Then again, that is their culture and we respected it.

Turks dine with silverware...they are not Arabs but rather Middle Easterners (i.e. Iranian, Georgian, Afghani etc.).

The only thing they have in common is the Muslim faith.

In the Arab world, pita bread is often used to 'scoop' certain food offerings but there are exceptions.

In the Muslim world, one only eats with their right-hand fingers because the left hand is traditionally used for wiping one's arse with gathered stones. They do not use toilet paper as this practice is considered unsanitary.

In more sophisticated Arab residences, the have bidets but in the desert this option is not feasible.
