Small-batch ice creamery Humphry Slocombe celebrating its new Peninsula store with an ice cream giveaway

A Bay-Area founded ice creamery is opening its first Peninsula storefront. Humphry Slocombe, founded in 2008 in San Francisco’s Mission District by Jake Godby and Sean Vahey, has locations throughout the Bay Area (and is available in prepackaged pints at Local Kitchens’ Peninsula micro food halls). The company is now opening its first Peninsula storefront in Redwood City on Tuesday, July 26.

Humphry Slocombe doesn’t sell classic ice cream flavors — most flavors on the menu, invented by chef and co-founder Godby, might need further explanation. The 10 current flavors sold at all locations include Secret Breakfast — made with bourbon and cornflakes — Chili Vanilla and vegan Toasted Sesame & Chocolate. Pints of Humphry Slocombe ice cream are available at all locations, and the store also sells sundaes and floats in addition to scoops.

“This city is known for its great climate and profound sense of community, so it makes perfect sense that local ice cream aficionados now have place to gather with friends and family, get their ‘weird’ on and experience a grown up, delicious, full-flavored ice cream adventure,” Sean Vahey, Humphry Slocombe co-founder, said in a statement.

The store is celebrating the grand opening of its Redwood City location by handing out free scoops starting at 1 p.m. Guests are encouraged to give an optional donation of $1 to local nonprofit Redwood City Together. Humphry Slocombe Redwood City will be open daily from 1-10 p.m.
