Redwood City's newest taqueria serves carnitas by the pound

Uploaded: Feb 10, 2020
At Carnitas El Rincon, newly opened in Redwood City, pork is the main event, from carnitas by the pound and chicharrones to braised pork feet.

Carnitas El Rincon is located at 999 El Camino Real, last occupied by an outpost of Taqueria El Grullense. It's part of a mini chain of seven taquerias throughout the Bay Area, including in San Jose, Hayward and Vallejo. The owners did not respond to interview requests but describe their business online as family owned and operated since 2004.

"We pride ourselves in spreading the traditions and flavors of Michoacán, Mexico," the restaurant's website reads.

Carnitas El Rincon offers carnitas at $9.58 per pound. Pork stomach, skin and rind is also available by the pound. Diners can order pre-set combinations, such as a half pound of carnitas with rice, beans, tortillas and a soda or agua fresca for $10.99.

The menu also includes tacos, burritos, quesadillas and rice plates.

On weekends, Carnitas El Rincon runs specials: whole braised chicken, barbacoa and consommé.

The taqueria is open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

I was so bummed when El Grullense shut this location down in January. I went there once a week, great burritos. Hope these guys can match them.

Thanks for covering this!
