Mountain Mike's Pizza arrives in Menlo Park

Uploaded: Nov 6, 2019
A local franchise of Mountain Mike's Pizza is now open at 1001 El Camino Real in Menlo Park, the former, longtime home of Applewood Pizza.

This is the third Mountain Mike's for franchisees Janet Moscini and her son Brian, who own locations in Redwood City (opened in April), Campbell and San Carlos.

The 5,200-square-foot space at the corner of El Camino Real and Menlo Avenue has been renovated, with new tables, flat screen TVs and a fresh coat of paint outside.

The restaurant serves the same menu as other Mountain Mike's: specialty, create-your-own and gluten-free pizzas, plus wings and sandwiches. For dessert, there's a pizza cookie (literally, a pizza-sized chocolate chip cookie meant to be shared) and a pizza topped with cinnamon, brown sugar, a "dusting" of mozzarella and powdered sugar.

Mountain Mike's Menlo Park is open Sunday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

As someone who lives 2 blocks away, I look forward to having another restaurant nearby that I'll never go to. Blerg.

I've never had Mountain Mikes. Generally, I stay away from chains, but I'll stop by to give it a try

I like Mountain Mike's! Yes, it's a chain, but it has a local feel. Good selection of pub-type food; great beer selection on tap. City of Menlo Park should offer subsidies to anyone brave enough to open a business on El Camino .... (that isn't an apartment building or a hotel)

I used to live in Campbell and went to their location often. Well run, nice staff, clean. I look forward to visiting in Menlo Park. :)

I don't eat much pizza anymore, but Mountain Mikes makes the best pizza close-by that
I know of in the local area. Open to any alternate suggestions of course.

Didn't the Starbucks that is now on El Camino near California used to be Mountain Mikes?
Long before that it was a restaurant called the Amber Lantern, and man they were the best.
All people seem to know these days are the chains and processed factory food, and as such
Mountain Mikes is good.

But, the Amber Lantern used to grind their own burgers and there was nothing like them.
They also made great pizza. I think about that place often when I drive by on El Camino
and wish there was a place as good as that today. And all of them have their own parking
too.

Does anyone at all remember the Amber Lantern?

Mountain Mike's is seriously good pizza. I love it!

Our feelings when Applewood closed was that it must have been easier to close than to clean the place.
I can't believe Mountain Mikes kept that awning outside. At least they painted/straightened/rehung it.

I went to Mountain Mikes once in that triangle shaped building on ECR in Redwood City or San Carlos (now closed).
Never went back.

Patxis, Vesta, Blue Line, Centro. Lots of great pizza in neighboring towns. I'll give this Mountain Mikes a try as I would love a good pizza place in MP (a seriously good beer selection would be a huge plus). Not hopeful though...

With Oasis closed I now contribute to late afternoon traffic going for pizza at Jake's in Sunnyvale. Note last I looked there is a Palo Alto Mountain Mike's in Charleston Center by Cubberley.

Pizza is decent, but they made the place look cramped and sterile. I am amazed at how they expanded the kitchen, got rid of the bar, yet they seem to have a tiny pizza oven. - it took them 45min to make a pizza the other day.
