Mountain View gets its own Ike's sandwich shop

Uploaded: Aug 9, 2019
Ever-expanding sandwich chain Ike's Love & Sandwiches opened its newest location this week at 1020 N. Rengstorff Ave., Suite F, in Mountain View.

Ike Shehadeh started the sandwich shop Ike's Place in San Francisco more than a decade ago. There are now 70 Ike's throughout California and in Nevada, Arizona and Texas. Locally, the sandwich shop has outposts in Palo Alto, Redwood City, Burlingame and is also expanding to Sunnyvale. The company plans to open 100 additional locations by the end of 2020, according to a press release.

Ike's generously portioned sandwiches are now available in Mountain View. Photo courtesy Ike's Love & Sandwiches.

Ike's is known for a long menu that allows for hundreds of ingredient combinations (including a secret "dirty sauce" that's spread on every sandwich unless you request otherwise) and cheeky sandwich names that often reference the location where they're served or athletes who work with Shehadeh to develop their own sandwich.

Each location opens with an exclusive sandwich. Mountain View has the “Larry Page & I Have The Same Birthday, So Basically I Invented Google Too,” a roast beef sandwich with foxfire sauce and pepper jack cheese, and a vegetarian version called “Judson Drive” with vegan fried chicken.

The Mountain View Ike's will hold a grand opening on Wednesday, Aug. 14. The first 50 guests will receive a free sandwich, and anyone who shows they are following Ike’s on Instagram can get a sandwich for $5 all day.

The sandwich shop is open Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Democracy.
What is it worth to you?

I'm not a fan of Ike's. The sandwiches are good, but the prices are really high for what you get and service is really slow even when there is no line. Many neighborhood owner-operated sandwich shops have just as good food with better service and better prices.

I tried Ike's one time , just recently. I am not impressed at all. Togo's and Subways are somewhat better than Ike's, to say the least. I would rather see Mendocino Farms which has much higher quality ingredients and doesn't make you bloat like Ike's. Ikes's sandwiches are huge but the quality of the ingredients, the bread, etc..are not high quality and tasty.

I like Ike's! The sandwiches are fantastic. They are sooooo much better than fast-food sandwiches at Subway, Togo's or many other sandwich shops. There are so many choices (including a secret menu).

I am so happy that this one will be opening. It is a great option near Costco.

I've never tried Spikes but have always been curious. Looking forward to checking them out.

Great! It's a block away from my office too, I'll definitely check it out soon.

When it opens, the Sunnyvale location might be more convenient to some MV residents, especially if you don't want to fight Costco traffic. It's in the same strip center where Bevmo is, taking over the former Togos space.

I've only eaten at Ike's once, years ago, but it was spectacular. This is good news, but maybe not for may wallet.
Cute new pic Elena :)

I attended today's grand opening arriving at 1:30pm to a surprisingly quiet restaurant. Ike himself was there chatting with some fans. There was no line to order and I was out the door in about 12 minutes with my $5 sandwich.

I soon learned that there was a major injury accident on US-101 just south of San Antonio Road; that may have impeded some folks from visiting the shop during my visit.

Anyhow, I wish Ike and his store employees the best in their new location. I look forward to visiting the upcoming Sunnyvale store which will probably be more convenient for me as Eric mentioned.

One opening beside Costco too.
