San Francisco's Andytown Coffee launches holiday cafe at Filoli

Uploaded: Nov 21, 2018
Every weekend through Christmas, San Francisco's Andytown Coffee Roasters will be serving its popular drip coffee, espresso drinks, hot cocoa and fresh pastries at Woodside estate Filoli.

Wife-and-husband Lauren Crabbe and Michael McCrory opened Andytown in 2014 in a 600-square-foot space in the Outer Sunset, where they live. They've since expanded to three cafes and a roasting facility (all in the Outer Sunset), wholesale partners and event catering, which is how they got connected with Filoli, Crabbe said.

After last year's coffee vendor for the estate's annual "Holidays at Filoli" event series fell through, Filoli staff reached out to Andytown.

"It was really serendipitous," Crabbe said. "We couldn't say no. It's such a beautiful opportunity."

Every Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Dec. 23, Peninsula residents "can get full the Andytown experience" inside the holiday gift shop at Filoli, Crabbe said. (Though you do have to pay admission fees to access Filoli. View information about tickets here.)

A coffee cart is set up to serve the cafe’s full menu, including Andytown’s signature Snowy Plover, an iced espresso cream soda made from a double shot of espresso, sparkling water and ice, topped with a dollop of homemade whipped cream. For the holidays, there's a peppermint version made with the additions of homemade peppermint syrup and chocolate ganache.

Irish soda currant scones, ginger cookies and other baked goods will also arrive fresh each morning from Andytown's San Francisco kitchen. Bags of fresh coffee beans will also be available for purchase.

Is this a harbinger of Andytown making moves to the Peninsula?

"I'm definitely open to the Peninsula," Crabbe said.

She said they get a lot of customers from the Peninsula since the Outer Sunset is more easily accessible from there. She's not actively looking for a space, but "if the right location finds its way to me then I'm totally open to it."

Filoli is located at 86 Cañada Road, Woodside.

What is it worth to you?

Wow -- this is exciting! We have visited Filoli a few times and enjoyed it. Now, we hope to bring some friends and family when they visit. This seems like it will be a wonderful addition to this beautiful estate.
