Flights to open in Mountain View Oct. 27

Uploaded: Oct 24, 2018
Tapas-style restaurant Flights will open its doors at 800 California St. in downtown Mountain View this Saturday, Oct. 27.

Flights is the brainchild of Alex Hult, a former professional hockey and poker player from Sweden. He opened Hult's Restaurant in Campbell in 2013, but later closed it and turned it into a Flights. He went on to open additional locations in Los Gatos and Burlingame.

At Flights, all dishes and drinks are served in threes: order hot dogs and you’ll get one bratwurst, one polish and one Calabrese; order tacos and you'll get al pastor, chicken and beef salsa verde. The idea is to encourage sharing and interaction, Hult said.

As the name indicates, the concept also plays off the idea of airplane service. Each table has a call button to request wait service, dessert or the check.

Flights serves lunch, dinner and brunch.

The grand opening will start at noon on Saturday.

interestingly, the link you provided in your most recent column about restaurants getting shut down clearly shows Flights of 800 California St being shut down for vermin in June 2018.

-- before posting a comment like that, which missed the main info. The 4th paragraph of the "vermin" article explained that exact violation, at an earlier restaurant there. Flights had nothing to do with that location at the time, and has since passed its own inspection

sorry...where in her article does it say Flights passed? What it DOES say in the Santa Clara Health Department link is...wait for it...Flights.

Don't put the blame on me for mentioning it.

I do put the blame on you, completely, for jumping to post what you apparently thought was just a snarky little snipe, but was based on careless misreading. And I have even told you where to find the correction, and you still didn't get it! ("The space is now under new ownership and has since passed a health inspection.")

Unbelievable.

Please do NOT comment further and thus dig yourself ever deeper.

Hey, all the people who will look at the Santa Clara Health Department's list of restaurants will, for the most part, not be referencing all the data back to this tiny blog, therefore, don't you think that they're going to assume Flights is in violation? How you interpret my initial comment as a snarky little snipe is unfortunate.

However, most people DON'T browse the Health-Dept. database with its quirks and errors, instead they see the conspicuous colored inspection notices in the windows, which do show the latest accurate info.

What stands out so much in the comments above is that someone who made a point of citing the recent "Vermin" post on this blog also failed apparently to grasp the helpful information in it that Flights restaurant (not even open yet!) was *not* the 800-California-St. tenant in June, the actual tenant (Shiva's) was named clearly in the "Vermin" story and can be verified in countless easy ways. So, any source showing Flights as the restaurant there in June is obviously wrong, misleading, and not worth dwelling on -- at most, it's worth correcting. A constructive commenter might have pointed out the correction, but not just repeated the error ("Flights being shut down for vermin") which propagates the misinformation, and could easily leave someone else thinking Flights was dinged for health violations which it was NOT.

Un-be-lievable.

He made a snark comment and now must remain willfully ignorant in order to not admit to himself that he blew it. Other see clearly though.
Willful ignorance is common here for those who must always snargue just for the sake of snargue-ing. Mostly its the basement dwellers with inferiority complexes.

Anyway, this place will do well to start. The stay at home moms are already buzzing about it on social media. If it hits a HR with the food it should be here for quite a while.
