Mahalo Bowl shutters in Mountain View

Uploaded: Jan 30, 2018
Mountain View's Mahalo Bowl served its last acai bowl on Saturday, Jan. 27.

Owner David Holyoak announced the closure on social media. He did not return requests for comment.

Holyoak opened Mahalo Bowl at 650 Castro St. in 2015 after running an acai-bowl food truck for about a year.

"Four years ago (this week) I started this business out of a beat up food truck," Holyoak wrote in a Facebook post on Jan. 23. "I was 2.5 years out of college, hated my job, and had dreams of building a business from the ground up."

Holyoak eventually grew Mahalo Bowl to more than 10 employees working out of the brick-and-mortar shop.

The post does not explain why he decided to close.

Holyoak is "in talks with a number of parties to take over the store," he wrote, "so don’t worry, downtown Mountain View will still have delicious acai bowls and smoothies available on the daily!"

Stay tuned for updates on what will replace Mahalo Bowl.
