Coffee shop opens in Palo Alto's Barron Park neighborhood

Uploaded: Jan 26, 2018
Baron Barista, a new cafe serving third-wave coffee from local roasters, is soft opening Friday, Jan. 26, in Palo Alto's Barron Park neighborhood.

The coffee shop has replaced Jamba Juice at 3990 El Camino Real. Owner June Kwon, who also owns Immersion Spa next door, said she wanted to bring quality coffee to the area. It's the San Francisco resident's first foray into the coffee world.

Baron Barista is serving coffee from Sightglass Coffee in San Francisco, Cat and Cloud Coffee in Santa Cruz and Andante Coffee from Los Angeles. Kwon is considering adding Ritual Coffee or Wrecking Ball Coffee Roasters, both in San Francisco.

"What I wanted to create is not only good, artisan coffee — the coffee that you make for real, not the way that Starbucks makes (it) — and then people get to choose different types of coffee roasters," she said.

Baron Barista also serves tea from Art of Tea, an importer and wholesale company based in Los Angeles.

There's a small food menu, with baked goods delivered daily from Palo Alto's Mayfield Bakery as well as paninis and toast. (Yes, there is avocado toast.) See the menu below.

Baron Barista's soft-opening hours will be 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Regular hours will be Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Democracy.
What is it worth to you?

The Baron Barista prices are a bit steep. $4.50 there compared to Latte (12 oz) for $4.00 at ZombieRunner.

It is great news that owner of the adjacent business is bringing this coffee shop to Baron Park!!!

A coffee shop in Baron Park is really needed especially because , sadly, COUPA Cafe which operates 5-6 cafes in Palo Alto and Stanford is operating a warehouse with no retail cafe component on El Camino nearby; despite the fact that
that location requires retail!?!

Good luck Baron Barista!!!

I thought we were getting an actual, real life "Coffee Shop" with cool booths, pancakes and omelettes in the morning then sandwiches, burgers and fries along dinner with "Specials" later on in the day. (sigh) it's a "Coffee house"

To "Aw heck:" Los Altos has what you're looking for. Downtown I know from experience has a few (and I've heard also the Loyola Corners district has) old-fashioned neighborhood coffee shops.

But they're clearly an endangered species. For each new one that opens nowadays, 20 or 30 espresso bars do. Like it or not, the espresso bar is mainstream Americana now, as the coffee shop was 50 years ago. It's what the general public wants. You could always try opening a new classic coffee shop yourself, but then you'd probably run into hard economic realities. Like high operating costs now (unless you happen to've already owned the property a long time) vs low revenues.

I think the neighborhood coffee shop, with breakfast and lunch and cheap daily specials, was a great tradition. A place where regulars all knew each other, and people enjoyed good coffee while lingering over the Peninsula Times-Tribune. (Traditional daily newspapers -- more nostalgia.)

And there it is--surely the owner of the coffee shop could have checked her spelling, before opening Baron (one R) Barista in Barron (two Rs) Park. The oversight makes me wonder if she cares for the community at all. Shocking, really!

BL is a registered user.

To AGB, I am sure the owner chose the spelling of "Baron" over "Barron" on purpose. I am sure she knows this neighborhood is spelled "Barron". Maybe it is marketing to cause you to notice and remember it is a single "r". Maybe to be different or draw attention.
