1 Oz. Coffee opens in Mountain View

Uploaded: Jan 16, 2018
A new coffee shop is slinging espresso drinks and pastries at 650 Castro St. in downtown Mountain View.

1 Oz. Coffee opened in Suite 130 in early January, said owner Yulia Kolchanova. The Santa Clara resident said she's been looking to open in Mountain View for several years. The Castro Street space was previously occupied by juice bar The Liquid Menu and then vegan cafe The Phoenix.

A native of Russia, Kolchanova said she could not find quality, specialty coffee when she moved to the area — until she discovered Cafe Venetia in downtown Palo Alto, where she briefly worked before starting 1 Oz. Coffee.

1 Oz. Coffee was at first a coffee catering company, serving private and corporate events, meetings, weddings and other events. Kolchanova opened the first brick-and-mortar cafe in Santa Clara in 2016.

1 Oz. Coffee serves coffee from several different roasters. The primary company Kolchanova works with is Vertigo Coffee Roaster in San Juan Bautista; others include Verve Coffee Roasters in Santa Cruz, Chromatic Coffee in San Jose, Tample Coffee in Sacramento and Cat & Cloud in Santa Cruz. Once every few weeks, the cafe will feature "guest beans" from different roasters.

There are also pastries from Alexander's Patisserie down the street.

1 Oz. Coffee also provides private coffee classes and trainings. Kolchanova plans to offer public classes at the cafe in a few months.

The cafe is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Thank you Elena!
The coffee shop on Castro is actually open Monday through Friday 7am-7pm and 9am-7pm on weekends.
The shorter hours you mentioned are for our outdoor coffee shop in Santa Clara.

Thank you, Yulia. I apologize for the error. I've corrected the story.
