Fall food-and-drink goings on

Festivals, Oktoberfest, wine tastings -- it's fall on the Midpeninsula, and that means an abundance of food-and-drink events. Check out a non-exhaustive list below, and feel free to share any events I missed in the comments.

Mountain View Art & Wine Festival
The 46th annual Mountain View Art & Wine Festival will take over Castro Street on Saturday, Sept. 9, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 10, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There will be wine, craft beer, cocktails, food vendors, plus art, live music and more. For more information, go to miramarevents.com.

'Tomato Extravaganza' at Gamble Garden

Celebrate tomato season as it lasts into early fall with Gamble Garden's fifth annual "Tomato Extravaganza" on Saturday, Sept. 9, 9:30-11:30 a.m. "What to do with all those tomatoes you have proudly grown and now have in super-abundance? Bring them to Gamble and share them with the neighborhood, explore different varieties both new and heirloom, taste favorite tomato dishes and bring along one of your own to share, if you would like," an event description reads. Gamble Garden Manager Ella Ancheta will also be on hand to answer questions about growing tomatoes.

Aeropress class at Blue Bottle

Nom Nom Paleo talk
Palo Alto couple Michelle Tam and Henry Fong of the popular "Nom Nom Paleo" food blog will speak at Books Inc. in Palo Alto about their forthcoming cookbook, "Ready or Not!: 150+ Make-Ahead, Make-Over, and Make-Now Recipes by Nom Nom Paleo" on Wednesday, Sept. 13, at 7 p.m. For more information, go to booksinc.net.

Wine and music pairing
Bay Area jazz-pop duo 23rd Hour will be at Byington Vineyard & Winery's Los Altos tasting room on Saturday, Sept. 16, from 7-9 p.m. — not just to perform, but to pair Byington wines with specific songs. Limited seating will "provide audience members the opportunity to interactively participate in the wine-music pairings," an event description reads. Tickets are $40 and include one wine tasting, one glass of wine of your choosing and a free copy of 23rd Hour's new album.

Los Altos wine walk
Stroll through downtown Los Altos with a wine glass in hand at the Downtown Los Altos Late Summer Wine Walk on Saturday, Sept. 16, from 2-6 p.m. Stores will be hosting local wineries. Vina Enoteca cocktail class
Palo Alto Italian restaurant Vina Enoteca is hosting its first mixology class on Monday, Sept. 18, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Vina Enoteca mixologist Massimo Stronati will teach participants how to make Milanese cocktails. $85 ticket includes two drinks and appetizers. To RSVP, email info@vinaenoteca.com.

Oktoberfest in Redwood City
For four days this month, downtown Redwood City's Courthouse Square will be transformed into a mini Munich for the city's annual Oktoberfest festival. From Thursday, Sept. 21, through Sunday, Sept. 24, there will be brews on tap, German food, live music, games and more. Entrance fee ($18-$20 and $10-$12 for children and designated drivers) includes a stein glass and one drink ticket; food and extra drink tickets will be sold separately. Enoteca 100 Autunno
Sip on more than 50 Barolo, Barbaresco and other wines made from Nebbiolo at Donato Enoteca's "Enoteca 100 Autunno" on Sat., Sept. 23, 1-4 p.m. There will also be food and live jazz. Tickets cost $80; to purchase, go to eventbrite.com.

Redwood City Salsa Festival
For all things salsa, head to the 10th annual Redwood City Salsa Festival on Saturday, Sept. 30, noon to 8 p.m. at Courthouse Square. There will be salsa tastings, food from local restaurants, beer and tequila tastings as well as music and dancing. For more information, go to redwoodcity.org.

Mountain View Oktoberfest
Head to Mountain View's fifth annual Oktoberfest on Saturday, Sept. 30, and Sunday, Oct. 1, from 11 a.m. to 7p.m. for German beer, food, entertainment and more. The event is open and free to the public, but drink tickets for those 21 years and older are $9 each. For more information and to buy tickets, go to mvoktoberfest.com.

La Bodeguita del Medio 20th anniversary
Palo Alto Cuban restaurant La Bodeguita del Medio is marking its 20th anniversary this month with a fundraising effort. Throughout September, the restaurant will donate $1 for every mojito sold to local schools, Best Buddies of California, Companions for Heroes and Red Cross disaster relief. The goal is to break a restaurant record: 4,500 mojitos sold in one month.

Summer pig roasts at Pizzeria Delfina
Summer is coming to an end, and so is Pizzeria Delfina's pig roast series. Catch the last two events at the Palo Alto restaurant on Tuesday, Sept. 26, and Tuesday, Oct. 31. Roasted pig from a local farm will be served al fresco on the Delfina patio with side dishes and Peroni on tap. There are two seatings: from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and 7:30-9:30 p.m. Tickets cost $50 for unlimited food and drink and $18.50 for kids 12 years old and younger. To purchase, go to eventbrite.com.

Flannery Beef dinner at Village Pub
The Village Pub in Woodside will host Bryan Flannery of Flannery Beef on Tuesday, Sept. 26, from 6:30-9:30 p.m. for a multi-course meal featuring beef from Holstein cows, wine pairings and a talk led by Flannery. Flannery's father opened a meat store inside a San Francisco grocery store in 1963; the son has carried on the tradition with his own company that sources premium meats. For $330 per person, dine on dishes like filet mignon tartare, braised short rib ravioli and 28-day aged Jorge steak. To purchase tickets, go to flannerybeef.bpt.me.

Yotam Ottolenghi in Palo Alto
In case you missed it, Israeli-born chef Yotam Ottolenghi is coming to Palo Alto to promote his new dessert-focused cookbook, "Sweet." Ottolenghi will speak at the Oshman Family JCC on Tuesday, Oct. 3, with pastry chef and co-author Helen Goh from noon to 1:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 for the general public, $20 for JCC members and $40 for ticket and a copy of "Sweet," which gets you priority for the post-event book signing. Thank you, Elena, for including Redwood City on your list. RWC's downtown area has become very vibrant with lots of restaurants, Courthouse Square events, and diverse cultural attractions. I see myself as a Citizen of the Mid-Peninsula, not just one town - and I hope lots of other folks feel the same.

awatkins: I don't actually review restaurants, I cover news about openings and closings, etc. The Woodside Bakery & Cafe is on our list to review in the newspaper after it's been open for three months, which is our policy.
