Celebrate tomato season as it lasts into early fall with Gamble Garden's fifth annual "Tomato Extravaganza" on Saturday, Sept. 9, 9:30-11:30 a.m. "What to do with all those tomatoes you have proudly grown and now have in super-abundance? Bring them to Gamble and share them with the neighborhood, explore different varieties both new and heirloom, taste favorite tomato dishes and bring along one of your own to share, if you would like," an event description reads. Gamble Garden Manager Ella Ancheta will also be on hand to answer questions about growing tomatoes.

Oktoberfest in Redwood City
For four days this month, downtown Redwood City's Courthouse Square will be transformed into a mini Munich for the city's annual Oktoberfest festival. From Thursday, Sept. 21, through Sunday, Sept. 24, there will be brews on tap, German food, live music, games and more. Entrance fee ($18-$20 and $10-$12 for children and designated drivers) includes a stein glass and one drink ticket; food and extra drink tickets will be sold separately. La Bodeguita del Medio 20th anniversary
Palo Alto Cuban restaurant La Bodeguita del Medio is marking its 20th anniversary this month with a fundraising effort. Throughout September, the restaurant will donate $1 for every mojito sold to local schools, Best Buddies of California, Companions for Heroes and Red Cross disaster relief. The goal is to break a restaurant record: 4,500 mojitos sold in one month.

Summer is coming to an end, and so is Pizzeria Delfina's pig roast series. Catch the last two events at the Palo Alto restaurant on Tuesday, Sept. 26, and Tuesday, Oct. 31. Flannery Beef dinner at Village Pub
The Village Pub in Woodside will host Bryan Flannery of Flannery Beef on Tuesday, Sept. 26, from 6:30-9:30 p.m. for a multi-course meal featuring beef from Holstein cows, wine pairings and a talk led by Flannery. Flannery's father opened a meat store inside a San Francisco grocery store in 1963; the son has carried on the tradition with his own company that sources premium meats. In case you missed it, Israeli-born chef Yotam Ottolenghi is coming to Palo Alto to promote his new dessert-focused cookbook, "Sweet."
