Srasa Kitchen opens location No. 2 in Mountain View

Uploaded: Aug 22, 2016
Mountain View Cambodian restaurant Srasa Kitchen has opened its second location, located at 292 Castro St.

Srasa Kitchen replaced Buffalo, which closed this April after two years of business. Buffalo owner Brandon Poon is a member of the family that owns Srasa Kitchen, and they recently decided to expand that concept, he said in a previous interview.

The family first opened Express 7, a Chinese restaurant at 225 Middlefield Road in Mountain View, 17 years ago. In 2015, they closed Express 7 and opened Srasa Kitchen, where diners can build their own Asian-fusion bowls made from fresh Cambodian, Thai, Vietnamese and Chinese ingredients. Bowls start at $8.50.

There are also pre-set bowls on the menu, like the "Cambo" with Vermicelli noodles, eight-hour roasted pork belly, seasonal vegetables, green curry, papaya salad, fresh herbs, bean sprouts, cucumbers, crispy shallots, Thai chilies, a soft-boiled egg and a lime wedge ($12.25).

The Castro Street location soft opened in late July, and the official grand opening was held last week, per the restaurant’s Facebook.

The new restaurant is open Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

We wandered in on their "official grand opening". The food is very tasty. They were offering two bowls for the price of one, so the cost was very good that day.

The concept seems similar to Asian Box, with slightly higher quality and prices. I will definitely be back.

I tried it out. It's great! Very tasty, lots of options, nice atmosphere.

As Wm said it's a little like Asian Box, both are "fast casual" where you build your own box (Asian Box) or bowl (Srasa Kitchen) of pan-Asian ingredients, and it's fresh and ready in almost no time. Where Srasa is different:

* It's more like Chipotle in that you go station to station and say what you want. This gives you more opportunity to customize your order ("can I have a little more of that?"), compared to Asian Box where you order up front and only see the final result.

* Various different sauce, protein, and toppings options. For example, Srasa has a few curry sauces which are very good. Overall Srasa has more toppings to pick from.
