Opening alert: Izzo in downtown Mountain View

Uploaded: Apr 25, 2016
Izzo, the second outpost of a San Jose Taiwanese/Asian-fusion restaurant, is now open at 246 Castro St. in downtown Mountain View.

Izzo owner Frank Chang took over the Castro Street space after Cijjo, a global tapas restaurant, closed.

A "limited" soft-opening menu described features items like potstickers, salt-and-pepper prawns, eight kinds of fried chicken wings, bento boxes (meat or fish served with sautéed cabbage, boiled egg and white rice), rice bowls and noodle dishes.

There’s also a "Taiwanese burger" section — take your pick between pork belly with something called peanut sugar powder, fried fish fillet with cabbage, Korean barbecue chicken with kimchee and sliced pork belly with garlic soy sauce. (Per the restaurant’s Facebook page, Taiwanese burgers look to actually be baos — steamed buns stuffed with meat and other ingredients.

More on the Asian-fusion side are quesadillas made with a Chinese scallion pancake instead of a tortilla and fillings like pork belly, barbecue chicken, jalapeño and kimchee.

View the San Jose restaurant’s full menu here.

According to the restaurant’s website, the name "Izzo" rhymes with the Chinese word short for "signature dish."

Current hours at the Mountain View location are 5:30-10:30 p.m.

We stopped in for the Soft Opening and was not impressed. Food was pretty horrendous; underflavored and service was ridiculously slow. I really hope they work out their issues soon.
