The restaurant's opening menu was posted to its Facebook page on Saturday, with six pizzas and six burgers. Pizzas include cheese, veggie combo, smoked chicken alfredo, BBQ pulled pork, Margherita and pepperoni and sausage; all are made in an Italian stone-fired conveyor oven. Burgers include a "Roadhouse Double," jalapeño burger, veggie, turkey and more. Add a fried egg, bacon or avocado to any burger for 75 cents to $1.50. Milkshakes will arrive on Monday, according to the restaurant's Facebook page.
Owner Russell Deutsch, who has described himself as an East Coast "exile," opened his first New England-style seafood restaurant, Old Port Lobster Shack, in Redwood City in 2006. Several other locations followed in subsequent years, including in Napa, and two remain open today (one at the Ladera Country Shopper on Alpine Road, and another in San Jose).
Rusty's Roadside is a few doors down from the Old Port Lobster Shack location at the Ladera shopping center, 3130 Alpine Road.
Deutsch said in October that Rusty's will deliver pizza to Portola Valley, Woodside and Los Altos Hills in a special van that he bought at a pizza show in Las Vegas. The van has an oven in the back that is heated by the car engine and can hold up to 62 pizzas, Deutsch said.
He is also in the midst of expanding the Old Port Lobster Shack brand, with three new locations set to come online in 2016 in Los Altos, Roseville and Portland, Maine. The original Redwood City location will be closing in 2016 to make way for a new apartment complex.
Editor's note: This story originally stated that Rusty's Roadside Grill is located in Portola Valley. It is located in Ladera.
