Moveable Feast, a food truck market operator based in San Jose, launched the Thursday market July 17 at 4290 El Camino Real (in front of the Crowne Plaza Hotel).
Moveable Feast has operated a smaller, lunch-time market on Tuesdays at Palo Alto Square since 2012. The evening market slot was long occupied by Edgewood Eats before it was shut down.
Moveable Feast founder Ryan Sebastian ? who himself started out as a food truck operator, running a karaoke ice cream truck dubbed TreatBot ? told me in January that he had long lusted after the night market option in Palo Alto, but when he got into the local market, Edgewood Eats was "sort of the de facto Monday night food truck (gathering)."
"Lunch time is very different," he said. (The Palo Alto Square market mostly caters to businesses in the surrounding complex.) "We didn't want to impose on that event; we thought it was a great community event."
TreatBot even participated in Edgewood Eats for some time.
"It was a great community gathering space. That's the type of stuff that's really important to us. I look at this as a way to build community," he said. "We would love to do a dinner time community event in Palo Alto."
Fast forward a few months, and here they are.
This Thursday's market featured an outdoor bar and trucks like BBQ Kalibi, Fish Taco Wabo, Got Curry?, Fairycakes, Gold Rush Eatery and Road Dogs.
