Blue Bottle Coffee taps out of Lytton Gateway

Uploaded: Jul 15, 2014
Third-wave coffee cult favorite Blue Bottle is no longer moving into Palo Alto's new Lytton Gateway building.

Communications Manager Byard Duncan said that the Oakland-born coffee company -- which announced in October 2013 that it would be moving into the new Survey Monkey building across from the downtown Caltrain ? "decided against moving forward with the Lytton Avenue location, but we're committed to a presence in Palo Alto."

"We love the city, and we're eagerly exploring a few other opportunities there," he added.

Lytton Gateway property owner Boyd Smith did not immediately return a request for comment.

Stay tuned for future details on Blue Bottle's potential Palo Alto presence.

The only retail shop officially set to open at Lytton Gateway is Gelataio, an independent gelato shop owned by a Palo Alto couple (both first-timers in the food business).

With Blue Bottle out, two retail spaces remain open -- a 1,199-square-foot space on Lytton and a 1,336-square-foot space on Alma, according to Jason Nortz, city planner for the Lytton Gateway project.

Is the Below Market Rate office space in this building still being given to the Chamber of Commerce? That's what I read a while back. Couldn't believe it.

About the building: Yes, that's correct. Here's an article from February about the Chamber's move: Web Link

Love Blue Bottle's little mini milk cartons of coffee that they sell at Whole Foods ... but at $4.00 a pop I won't buy them until the price come down to something less ridiculous. I got a free sample from one of the nice Whole Foods workers ... in Mountain View I might add, that doesn't happen often in Palo Alto for some reason.
