Mountain View's emergency lines went down due to a widespread AT&T outage on Friday, Sept. 15.

The Mountain View Police Department learned about the outage just after noon on Friday, police spokesperson Katie Nelson said. Services were back up and running by 5:43 p.m., the police department said on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Calls to 9-1-1 were answered by Santa Clara County during the outage, police said. Those needing emergency assistance were told to continue to call 9-1-1.

The police's non-emergency number (650-903-6344) was still operational during the outage.

The impact of the AT&T outage wasn't limited to Mountain View. All the phone lines at the Palo Alto Police Department were down and Santa Clara County's dispatch system was also handling 9-1-1 calls in that city.
