School board plans special meeting to discuss Monta Loma fencing
The Mountain View Whisman School District's board has scheduled a special meeting for 6 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 28, to discuss fencing at Monta Loma Elementary School.
The school district has spent the past three years reviewing whether to install fences at Monta Loma after the idea prompted strong opposition from some community members. At an Aug. 17 meeting, district staff presented the board with three fencing options and the board planned to take a vote on the issue at a Sept. 7 meeting.
However, the board had limited discussion about the options at the Aug. 17 meeting, because the fencing discussion was put near the end of a lengthy agenda and the item didn't begin until after 10 p.m.
Because of the truncated discussion last week, the board scheduled Monday's meeting to get community input and discuss the fencing options, according to a letter to Monta Loma community members that is attached to Monday's agenda.
The letter describes Monday's meeting as a chance for board members to "hear final thoughts from the community, review community input received thus far and deliberate the options."
The meeting is slated to be held in the district's board room at 1400 Montecito Avenue. The district plans to offer a Zoom option at mvw.sd/828. Meetings are also typically live streamed at youtube.com/mvwsd. The agenda is available on the district's website.

Any chance the Voice can give us 1 or 2 weeks notice before the Hazardous Waste Event?
Seems you can do this for the Art & Wine Festival, surely it should be possible to announce the Hazardous Waste Event sooner, rather than the day before!
Hint, save the story for the next time and change the dates; then publish two weeks before the event.
