The Mountain View Whisman School District Board of Trustees unanimously voted at a Dec. 9 meeting to elect Laura Blakely as its new president, replacing Devon Conley.

"You're leaving big shoes to fill," Blakely said to outgoing president Conley after the board voted at Thursday's meeting.

The board also elected Laura Ramirez Berman as its vice president and Ellen Wheeler as clerk.

Local school boards typically vote on new leadership each December for the upcoming year. Trustees traditionally rotate through the leadership roles, each serving one year terms.

Blakely was first elected in 2016 and is currently serving her second term on the board. She is up for re-election in 2024. Before being elected to the board, she served for nearly a decade on the district's foundation.

Not sure where to put this but why do the MV Public Schools here loving taking so many days off?? Kids are out of school starting Dec20 and do not come back until Jan4, and than there's 10 days of half-day parent-teacher conferences until Jan14th. This is some lackadaisical scheduling run amuck. Who approves these insane lax schedules, is it the school board !???
